How to be Insulting about Singers

Following an audition for a production of Carmen, Sir Thomas Beecham told the manager of one of the unsuccessful male singers:

'He's made a mistake. He thinks he's the bull instead of the toreador.'

They say she's got a promising voice — perhaps she'll take notice and promise to stop singing.
